Service Description

Doesn't matter if you think you're a writer or not, come join us in this virtual book club if you feel like it and share what you think about the month's book pick. Please support the indie bookstore The Frugal Frigate by purchasing your copy through them; they offer 15% off for all book clubs and can ship if needed: https://www.frugalfrigate.com During this hour together, we'll discuss everything from our general impressions to the specific ideas, strategies, and advice shared in each book (see below for the specific questions). Each meeting is $10, and you sign up for one at a time (the registration process on this site is a little strange-looking at first). READING SCHEDULE (some dates are TBD) JULY 21 - Sunday 3:00 pm PST: Writing on Empty by Natalie Goldberg AUGUST 25 - Sunday 3:00 pm PST: Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert SEPTEMBER: The Art of Memoir by Mary Karr OCTOBER: On Writing by Stephen King NOVEMBER: The Creative Act by Rick Rubin DECEMBER: Still Writing: The Perils and Pleasures of a Creative Life by Dani Shapiro PAST BOOK CLUB PICKS - JUNE: Writing Down the Bones by Natalie Goldberg GROUP DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 1. General impressions - What did you think of the book? 2. What's a new idea, strategy, or piece of advice you'd like to incorporate into your life? How could you do it? 3. What stories or excerpts stood out the most and why? 4. How did reading about this book on writing influence your writing life? Have you changed your mind about anything or have any pre-existing beliefs been strengthened? Tell us about it. 5. What questions do you have for the group? MY 9 FAVORITE BOOKS ABOUT WRITING - BLOG POST I've chosen some of the books for this group from my list of favorites that I share more about on my blog if you'd like to learn more about each: https://www.katieallen.net/post/my-9-favorite-books-on-writing Finally, I'm looking for recommendations: what books like this do you know about that include a more diverse range of authors? I'd love to hear your suggestions, or if you have any questions or if the fee to join would be cost-prohibitive and you'd like to request a fee waiver, just email me at authorkatieallen@gmail.com and I look forward to connecting with you more soon! Katie
