A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah is one of Natalie Goldberg's recommended memoirs from the list at the end of her book "Old Friend From Far Away: The Practice of Writing Memoir
The structure of these free online book clubs (held on Zoom the last Saturday of every month) is always the same:
- We'll share and discuss favorite excerpts, impressions, and study the structure of the book
- 5 minute break
- 5 minute sitting meditation
- Writing practice
You are welcome to attend just the first hour if you do not wish to do writing practice in the second.
This structure is based on how I experienced the study of a book with Natalie Goldberg in the summer of 2021 on Madeline Island in addition to her virtual 8-week live course in the spring of 2021.
